Welcome to FLIP TEXAS, where our mission is to uplift the literacy skills of 1st and 2nd graders throughout the North Texas area. We offer free tutoring sessions at community hubs and online to ensure that every child has access to quality reading support. Our passionate tutors are committed to creating engaging and personalized learning experiences that spark a love for reading. Program Overview
FLIP Reading Labs
FLIP Reading Labs are the core of our program, providing in-person, small-group literacy tutoring in trusted community spaces such as libraries, churches, community centers, and recreation centers. Designed for 1st and 2nd grade students reading below grade level, these sessions take place twice per week for 45-60 minutes and maintain a low 1:2 tutor-to-student ratio to ensure personalized attention. Using structured phonics instruction, guided reading, and interactive learning activities, Reading Labs help students build foundational skills, improve fluency, and gain confidence in their reading abilities in a supportive, consistent environment.

Virtual Reading Mentors
Virtual Reading Mentors expand access to literacy support by connecting students with trained volunteer tutors through online platforms such as Zoom or Google Meet. This flexible model allows children to receive individualized reading instruction from the comfort of home, making it ideal for families with transportation or scheduling challenges. Students read aloud, practice comprehension, and receive real-time feedback from their mentors, while volunteers from across Texas can participate regardless of location. This approach enables FLIP TEXAS to scale rapidly while maintaining high-quality, personalized instruction.

Parent Literacy Workshops
Parent Literacy Workshops equip families with the tools and knowledge needed to support their child’s reading development at home. These sessions teach parents essential phonics concepts, effective reading strategies, and practical ways to build strong daily reading habits. By empowering parents to reinforce what children learn during tutoring sessions, FLIP TEXAS creates a more consistent and supportive learning environment beyond program hours. This family-centered approach strengthens long-term outcomes and helps ensure that literacy gains are sustained over time.
